On 18th March 2017, Bridgnorth High Street will play host to a nostalgic celebration of farming and a trading history as the town welcomes Savoir Fayres Continental Market and the 20th Annual Vintage Tractor Run.

There is a historical significance to the marketplace. Before the supermarkets, before the internet; the marketplace was where traders would introduce their world to the world.

Traders, who had sailed the seas, discovering lands and cultures, would gather the culinary and material treasures they harboured and bring them to market to showcase to their native countrymen. The market was a place of cultural learning and discovery.

Savoir Fayre continues this tradition, selectively inviting traders who exhibit the range of wears, cultural and historic knowledge and authenticity that they hold precious to the market as a cultural institution.

˜Flavours of the World is a market crafted to stir the senses. Among the atmosphere, accents and aromas you will discover Italian sweets and biscuits from the home of the lightest nougats; cheese that characterises the cultural and culinary identity its hometown; along with cured meats, fuet and saucisson from every corner of France and beyond its borders; and stalls offering ranges of coffee and mustards, the breadth of which boggles the mind, but brought by traders with the knowledge and passion to enlighten you of the subtleties between them.

The diversity peaks with one of the most unlikely culinary cultural crossovers at the Rao Deli, where France meets Vietnam. Inspired by the iconic French baguette, the Vietnamese offer their own take, the Bánh mì “ a crusty and light, fluffy baguette of traditional Vietnamese ingredients and baking practices, filled with succulent, slow cooked meats, marinated in spices only those from the Far East know how to perfect and severed with fresh chillies and dressings, delivering a mouth-watering balance of sweet and sour, heat and fresh, crusty and soft.

Beyond those stalls that tempt the taste buds, the market brings traders arriving to showcase the beauty of craft that exists beyond our shores. From bowls and ornaments, carved from Moroccan marble and Baltic amber, set into handcrafted jewellery; to finely woven Italian clothing, rugs and throws and over 60 scents of soap, forged from olive oil and enriched with argon oils from Alep to Marseille.

At 12:30pm the 20th Annual Vintage Tractor Run converges on the south of the High Street.

Organised by the Bridgnorth Vintage Machinery Club, the rally celebrates the history of our countrys agriculture, with over 75 tractors expected at this years run.

They will park up until 2pm to show children and grown-ups alike around the vehicles while collecting donations for the West Midlands Air Ambulance, to whom the club have donated over £75,000 to date.n/a
