Calling all yarn lovers!Join us at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings for a day dedicated to celebrating the beauty and creativity of fibre. Whether you knit, crochet, spin, weave or simply love being surrounded by colourful yarn, this is one for the diary.
Browse hand-dyed yarns, spinning fibres, beautiful tools and unique accessories. Meet talented indie dyers, chat with fellow yarnies and discover inspiration for your next project.
Enjoy demonstrations throughout the day, soak up the atmosphere of this incredible historic venue and perhaps add a few new skeins to your stash.
?? Workshops on the day include:
? Introduction to Crochet Cables with Marianne Penny
This technique is a great way to add texture and depth to your fabric, which can be used to add interesting features to your hats, mittens, scarves and even blankets. This is much like cables in knitting, but we use a different stitch method to create it. We will look at how to follow the symbols in a crochet diagram to create twists in your stitches that are raised on the surface of your fabric.
Yarn will be provided.
Bring with you:
- a 4 or 5mm hook
- scissors
- stitch makers
- pencil or pen etc.
? Knitted Mitred Squares with Clare Atfield
Mitred squares are simple, versatile, and forgiving. They can be used to create many different knitted garments and items. In this workshop, you will learn what can be made with the technique, how to pick up and knit further rows and columns and you will go home with a full-colour booklet of simple knitted mitred square blanket patterns, worth ?£4.50. This is not a beginners class, you must be confident with casting on, decreases, pick up and knit.
Bring with you:
- a knitted square about 10cm x 10cm. Any weight of yarn may be used. Ideally pick a lighter yarn as it is easier to see the edge stitches.
- double point needles (20cm or longer) and stitch stoppers/needle toppers OR straight needles OR circular needles to match tension with your yarn
- stitch markers
- yarn of your choosing
? Stranded Colourwork Knitting with Kath Andrews
Learn how to manage two yarns at once when knitting or purling including how to catch floats, how maintain an even tension to create a smooth fabric and follow a colour-work chart.
