Event Details
Wheaton Aston will soon be holding its very first Historical Festival. On 21-22 September the village will be going back in time, 100 years, to the end of the first World War.
The village will be host to cavalrymen, soldiers, nurses, suffragettes and a pipes band. There will be a military parade from the event field through the village, which will be led by the Shirley Pipe Band and joined by local school children, a choir and other local organisations. The villagers will be decorating their houses along the route with flags and banners and cheering the parade on its way.
A fabulous day out for all the family who can discover how the Cavalrymen, Soldiers, Nurses and Suffragettes lived during World War One by watching events in the arena and walk among interactive living history displays.
Visitors will be able to see Lancers demonstrating their horsemanship, regiments of Soldiers drilling and performing manoeuvres, Nurses tending to the sick, Suffragettes demonstrating their self defence techniques, the Pipes Band and various stalls, including The Shrewsbury WarGames Society who will be recreating battles. The local village farms and pubs are competing in the Village Games for the honour of their farms, pubs and villages and visitors can choose a team and cheer them on.
Visitors can immerse themselves in a time gone by as they wander around the camp, see equipment, kit, weaponry, medical supplies, field kitchen, livery, regalia, uniforms and listen to talks, ask questions and understand the people of that time, find out how all the equipment and kit worked and why it and the people, helped us win the war.facebook/historicalfestival
